Hi friends! This morning we welcome the lovely Marcia from The Dessert Room. The Dessert Room specializes in designer cakes and confections, customized to fit your event and vision! We have also just opened our first retail boutique where you can walk in and get your sweet treat fix! We combine premium quality ingredients and flavours with modern style.
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? 2 years
What makes your business unique? I have a serious love for minimalistic design with purpose. I'm definitely on the 'less is more' mentality, and making the details count. Another thing that I think makes us unique is the attention to technique and quality that gets used. Being a pastry chef turned cake designer has really helped make sure things tastes as good as they look.
Favourite part of your business? It's tough to pick just one favourite thing. If I HAD to, I would say putting all of the pieces together and seeing the entire vision come to life. The cherry on the top are those times when you get to see the couples reaction - it makes every minute that goes into the production and styling, so worth it.
What inspires you? Everything around is inspiring, from fashion and decor to culture and nature, but above all is the inspiration that the couple lends. Their story, their vision, their mood - it all inspires a feeling for how we can create something perfect for them.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? I really don't think I could pick just one. I've been so blessed to be surrounded by such creative, inspired and positive industry professionals that they all are an inspiration. It's an honour to work next to such a big group of talent and the energy is contagious and keeps me going (even on the days it's tough to roll up my sleeves).
On your day off...where would we find you?
I'll either be trying out a new restaurant on my huge bucket list OR be giggling up a storm with my two little nephews, that always keep their Auntie on her toes.
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? Does a world traveller count as a job? haha. I would love to travel the world doing something in the fashion industry.
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? Details. So many couples are moving away from the cookie cutter and looking deeper into the details that make their day look both complete and personal in such a unique way. In terms of cake design - clean and minimal with some bold accentsis gaining speed. I love that we even get to bring some unconventional colours into our designs this season.
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Stay true to your vision and yourselves. While every couple wants to please everyone around them, sometimes too many voices can cause stress and struggles. Take everything in and then reflect back on your goal as a couple. Don't forget what the day is all about - the celebration of your love and promise to each other.
