This week's Vendor Spotlight is a conversation with Danielle Shaw from Shaw Events about the question she gets asked the most...
Do I Really Need a Wedding Planner?
One question I hear a lot from couples who are recently engaged is, “do I really need you? Will I get value out of a wedding planner?” My answer is of course, Yes! But that’s not because I'm biased (not totally anyways!). When I was married three years ago, as a planner, I still hired one. Not because I couldn’t do it on my own, but because I knew I didn’t want to.

Reason #1 to hire a wedding planner: Save time and money throughout the process.
Wedding planning is hard work. Did you know that most online resources state that it takes 250 hours to plan a wedding? When you’re also working a full time job, this can sound daunting, and add stress to your experience. But planning your wedding IS your wedding planner's full time job. So they can be updating your budgets, reviewing contracts and going back and forth with your vendors on the small details, so that you don’t have to. This allows you to stay focused at work, and spend more time with your fiancé on the weekends!

Saving money is also a value that wedding planners can add. You only book vendors once in your life, but your planner is working with those reputable vendors frequently, and because of this, they are going to receive preferred rates that you otherwise wouldn’t receive. This may allow more room in your budget, or get those little extras you’ve had your eye on.
Reason #2 to hire a wedding planner: Knowing who to hire and when to hire them
If you type Niagara Wedding Photographer, you will find hundreds of websites pop up on google. Using specialty resources, like Vineyard Bride, definitely helps to narrow this down. When working with a wedding planner, when it comes to booking a vendor, they are going to send you the best vendors, with the best reputation, and the best pricing to suit your budget. You wont be emailing 45 photographers to find out which ones are in your budget range, or sifting through 100 websites to find a photographer that fits the style you like. Your wedding planner brings them to you. And presents them in a way that makes it clear and concise. Which also helps make the decision making process that much easier!
Another added value a wedding planner adds, is the ability to know when to book those vendors. What is your biggest priority after getting engaged? When should you hire a florist, or a photographer. When should your fiancé rent that tux? Your wedding planner will create you a customized timeline, that is tailored to you and your plans, so that you don’t miss out on that florist you’ve been eyeing since your first date.
Reason #3 to hire a wedding planner: A stress free wedding day
When you sit down and think about your ideal wedding date, what do you envision? Do you see yourself setting up your décor, and making sure that your vendors have arrived? Of course not! You envision sitting around with your favourite people, sipping mimosas and getting pampered. Then going to meet your fiancé for a relaxed celebration of your love – not worrying if the venue remembered that specialty dessert table you spoke endlessly about for months.

Whether you hire a wedding planner for full planning, or just month of coordination, your wedding day will be a stress-less, relaxing day for you to focus on you and your fiancé. Not whether uncle bob received the right meal, or if the cake arrived with the right colour fondant. Your wedding planners job is to create a seamless itinerary, liaise with your vendors and ensure your day goes as smoothly as possible.
All in all, a wedding planner will be an investment. Only you can decide if you want yours to be along for the ride throughout the entire process, or if you feel you want them to come in for month of coordination and help you tie up loose ends and execute the day. Either way, having a planner on your side for your wedding day will be the best money you spend. A peace of mind on your wedding day, knowing that you have someone working for you, who’s biggest priority is you – is priceless.
