Hi Danielle! In a nut shell... what do you do?
Wedding Planning and Design, Vintage Rentals. Offer full, partial, month of coordination and on-site styling packages.
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? 5 years
What makes your business unique? I encourage my clients to make their wedding personal, not just what they see on pinterest. I like to find out what makes them who they are, how they met, what they like to do together, any other unique details - and find ways to bring those things into their wedding day. Guests enjoy personal touches, and those will be the details they will look back on for years to come.
Favourite part of your business? I equally enjoy all of the 'paperwork' - the itineraries, and floor plans, etc - as I do the creative aspect of designing a beautiful table scape or putting out those little details that make each wedding unique.
What inspires you? The friends I have made in this industry inspire me so much. I have some pretty talented women and men in my life that push me to be my best self, and to create my best work.
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? Internationally, I really look up to Sinclair and Moore and Hey Gorgeous - for their incredible designs and unique elements that they provide for each individual client. Learning from Rhiannon, of Hey Gorgeous, this year at her Trouvaille workshop was one of the best things I have done for my business. Locally, there's just so many I look up to. Whether it's the incredible creative outlet that Sue Gallo of Sue Gallo Designs has and the beauty she produces time and time again, the drive that Leslie of Warehouse 84 has, or the measurable success that Marcia of the Dessert Room has at such a young age, all of these women (and so many more, I couldn't possibly list!) are who I look up to on the daily. And the ability to work with them regularly, is even better!
On your day off...where would we find you?
At home with my two little ones!
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? If I weren't a wedding vendor, I would be a stay at home mom - and I would enjoy every second! Sometimes, working everyday, and trying hard to successfully run my own business has its challenges while also having two children who aren't school-aged, but I am so grateful for the times I can make my own schedule - and if some time off with them is necessary - then we make it happen!
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? Many of my 2016/2017 clients are wanting to move away from the "rustic" look that has been so popular for so long. They are moving to a more sophisticated vintage elegance. Clean lines, neutral colours, and bringing texture in with florals and lots of greenery. Another trend Im seeing is losing the "structure" that goes along with a wedding. Couples are trying to find unique ways for their wedding timeline to flow, instead of having it follow the cookie cutter way we have been seeing it for so long.
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER :) In all seriousness, planning your wedding will not be stress free. Its going to be a lot of work. But if you take it in stride, and ask for help when you need it (whether that be through a professional wedding vendor, bridesmaids or even your moms) this can help to make the process much more enjoyable. You don't want to look back on the process and think "I never want to do that again". You want to think back and say "those were some of my favourite moments, and the time leading up to our big day was a great time to strengthen our relationship - with each other - and with our friends and families".
