Let us introduce you to the lovely Marcia from The Dessert Room...

I am the owner, pastry chef and head cake decorator at The Dessert Room! Whether a unique custom cake, elegant sweet table or premium favours, I work with our incredible clients to bring their beautiful visions to life. One year ago today, I opened our very first retail bakery boutique! In addition to custom cakes and sweet tables, we are now also able to offer a variety of delicious desserts and confections for you topop in and grab a treat! The French Macaron are my favourite :)

How long have you been working in the wedding industry? Just over 2 years now! But it has so quickly become such a huge part of my life, that I can't remember a day without it.

What makes your business unique? I thinksomething that really makes The Dessert Room unique is the client experience. It's so important to us that our clients have a fun, luxurious and stress free process. I love getting to know them and build a relationship where we can all be transparent and create something that perfectly fits their vision for their special day! In addition to this beautiful experience, we of course ensure that the quality of the product is just as great. We only use premium quality ingredients, make everything from scratch and put our style and French technique to good use.  After all, it's all about the details.

Favourite part of your business? Do I have to pick just one? I love meeting such amazing people all the time - couples in love about to begin one of the biggest chapters of their lives, families looking for a cake to celebrate a special moment and then all of the supportive and loyal customers who come from near and farjust to grab a treat! I am SO honoured to be a part of peoples lives, memories and special moments. Another thing that I always look forward to, is creating new flavour combinations as the seasons change and inspiration floods. One more thing! Taste testing (of course)!

What inspires you? I feel like everywhere I look I end up finding bits of inspiration, but I especially pull inspiration from fashion, architecture and textiles.

Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? I honestly couldn't pick just one person. My hero IS the Niagara wedding industry. This group of creative individuals are so caring, passionate, expressive and embracing that it really is my driving force. To be able to be part of this group, is an honour that I will always be grateful for.

On your day off...where would we find you? Getting a manicure, browsing home sense, having a glass of wine on a patio or playing in the mud with my Nephews (or all of the above haha).

If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? Definitely something in the fashion world, or an interior designer. I love re-arranging things, decorating rooms and of course, love fashion!

What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? I'm seeing bold pops of colour, mixed in with soft neutrals and I love it!  Don't be scared to pick a colour and let it shine. Fun, playful and styled dessert tables are still trending this year whichis a great way to show your personality as a couple and also give your guests delicious options. Everyone is getting excited about unique flavours, so while you might be nervous and want to go the 'vanilla' route, to please all ofyour guests, choosing unique flavours can really make your cake and desserts memorable.

Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? Trust your wedding vendors. The most important part is choosing a team of vendors that you can trust with your vision, then leave the details to them. This will lead to a better and less stressful wedding planning experience for you and a beautiful outcome on your special day.
