We are Frilly Bits! A Niagara-based mother-daughter team who design and creategorgeous custom and ready-to-wear hair and gown adornments for your special day! We work with any colour scheme and theme and will work with you to make your vision a stunning reality!
How long have you been working in the wedding industry? Frilly Bits just celebrated their 5th anniversary, which means we have handcrafted and designed countless stunningly beautiful veils, headpieces and sashes for our beautiful clients. We’ve even created boutonnieres, garters, shower favors and themed headpieces for Bachelorette parties!
What makes your business unique? We think we have a few aspects that make us unique! First and foremost is our commitment to using only cruelty free feathers in our creations. We are both huge animal lovers and we just didn’t feel right about using feathers that weren’t naturally and humanely collected from our beautifully feathers friends. A few more noteworthy points would be that we’re a mother-daughter team, our work was featured in the official Swag Bags at the 2014 News and Documentary Emmys, and our pieces were worn by Breakfast Television’s Dina Pugliese during BT's coverage at the Royal Wedding.
Favourite part of your business? Gosh, there are so many favorites to this business—getting to meet such amazing people (both clients and fellow Vendors), collaborating on swoon-worthy creative photo shoots, working together as mother and daughter, and of course creating these beautiful little works of art! There’s nothing better than working with a client on his or her design and being able to finally present them with their final product. Seeing their face light up is so rewarding. There is nothing better than getting to be a part of the incredible day in which a beautiful couple begins their life together. The grand adventure. In my years I have been to many weddings and I have to say that my favourite moment of all is that moment when the Groom sees their partner for the first time. While most eyes are on the Bride, mine are always on the Groom. In that instant you see the most tremendous emotions. Love, adoration, gratitude, excitement, happiness and pure joy. It's in that moment where I feel most honoured to be doing what we do. In that instant, when a Groom sees his Bride for the first time, she has quite possibly never looked more beautiful than she does that day...and we get to be part of that incredible moment! We get to be a part of the look that will never be forgotten..and it's that very honour that keeps us excited for each new wedding season that begins...
What inspires you? Quite simply, love inspires us. Meeting with our wonderful clients and seeing their excitement in planning their wedding gives us the fuel to create something truly special for them. We love to hear how they met, all about their vision for the big day and what makes their bond so special. Hearing all of these things really helps us get a feel for them as a couple and gives us the inspiration to create a cohesive design that works with them!
Who is your mentor/hero in the industry? While there are lots of incredibly talented people to look up to in this industry I would say that we admire any #ladyboss who is out there, living the dream and making a name for herself in this incredibly competitive industry. I admire anyone who has the guts to work her buns off and follow a path that will not always be fruitful, but learns from the knocks and only gets stronger and stronger. Those are the kinds of people we admire.
On your day off...where would we find you?
Hmmm… if we’re together, we are likely out shopping or having dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. If we are apart, mom’s likely golfing, gardening or out for a ride on her motorcycle while I am likely spending time with the fella, walking my incredibly adorable dog and enjoying the outdoors!
If you weren't a wedding vendor, what would be your dream job? Mom would be a Hair Stylist while I would run an animal sanctuary or feed the babies in the zoo :)
What great wedding trends are you seeing this year? We definitely still have a lot of requests for the bohemian look, as well as “Old Hollywood” and Gatsby but we are finding more and more that our clients want a look that celebrates their individual style and highlights what makes them truly unique!
Do you have any practical advice for couples planning a wedding? I think the best advice we can give to a couple that’s planning their wedding is to focus on the aspects that are most important to your day and to not lose sight of what really matters – you have found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with and you get to stand in front of everyone you love (and who loves you) and celebrate that love with them. What’s more incredible than that?
